High blood pressure, medically known as hypertension, is a blood pressure reading in excess of 140/90 mmHg and affects 1 in 3 people worldwide. It has been called “The Silent Disease” because there are rarely obvious symptoms and you only know you have got it when a reading is taken. When the pressure is too high it puts a strain on your heart and arteries. The World Health Organisation estimates that hypertension causes 20% of all deaths in men and 24% of all deaths in women. There are two main classes – Primary and Secondary hypertension. Secondary hypertension has a medically recognised cause. However in over 90% of cases of Primary Hypertension the cause is unknown.
What causes high blood pressure?
Blood pressure generally increases with age and those over the age of 65 are at most risk. There are many life-style factors implicated in hypertension: being overweight, drinking regularly, smoking, limited exercise, insufficient sleep, poor diet, too much table salt and caffeine and a family history of high blood pressure. Emotional factors also contribute towards hypertension.
The Hypnotension Programme helps you to address the most common emotional and lifestyle factors which contribute to high blood pressure by using proven hypnotherapy and cognitive techniques. You can be helped to manage stress, improve sleep, lose weight; therapy will depend upon the contributing factors each client needs help with. Even a small reduction of 2.5/1.4mmHG reduces the risk of dying from a stroke by 12 – 14% and heart disease by 9 – 10%.
Hypnotherapy helps people to lower high blood pressure through the Hypnotension programme, specially designed specifically to deal with the lifestyle factors, such as smoking, weight, drinking, salt intake and stress. Many of these are a few of the lifestyle factors which are known to bring about and sustain hypertension.
